ECOLOOP Welcomes Enlit on the Road to Our Picassent Pilot Site in Valencia

At the end of February, our Picassent pilot site in Valencia will welcome a special guest—Enlit Europe on the Road. We’re thrilled and honoured that they chose to record at our site as part of their visit to Valencia, the European Green Capital 2024, to explore the city’s progress in the energy transition.

In this context, the ECOLOOP project was invited to showcase the Valencia pilot, highlighting how the technologies developed within the project contribute to the region’s energy transition.

Spotlight on the Valencia Pilot: Pioneering Sustainable Energy Solutions

Located in the L’Horta Sud district of Valencia (Picassent), our Spanish pilot site is setting the stage for a new model of sustainable energy communities. Here’s what we’re working on:

  • Agri-PV Systems: Integrating agriculture with photovoltaic technology to support sub-tropical, vineyard, and horticultural crops.
  • Geothermal Energy: Leveraging subsoil heat for heating, air conditioning, and hot water in Agri-PV structures, mushroom cultivation, and fruit storage.

A key highlight will be the implementation of the ECOLOOP Decision Support Tool for Farmers and Foresters, designed to enhance sustainable agricultural practices while advancing renewable energy use.

ECOLOOP’s Decision Support Tool is a platform where agronomic sensor measurements and energy systems from the pilot are integrated. The various elements are modelled to offer different visualizations of the system, and the received data is analyzed to extract information that provides the user with recommendations and notifications to improve the system’s efficiency and outcomes. This enables advanced decision-making and active participation of final users, facilitating access to energy systems in rural areas and providing social benefits.

Currently, ETRA I+D is in the process of updating the model and integrating the measurements.
