The ECOLOOP project continues to demonstrate how energy flexibility can deliver both economic and system value. Within the framework of its activities, a key milestone has been achieved in the Slovenian Pilot Site: the integration of battery energy storage systems (BESS) into the ancillary services scheme of Slovenia’s transmission system operator, ELES.
This achievement has been made possible through the joint efforts of Kolektor sETup (SETUP), acting as an independent aggregator, and Biomasa, whose assets are now fully operational within the ancillary services framework. The integration enables BESS assets to actively support power system stability while unlocking a new, robust revenue stream for Biomasa’s portfolio.
Over the past eight months, SETUP and Biomasa have successfully completed the full integration pathway. This process covered all stages, from data acquisition and technical feasibility assessments to control system integration, formal asset registration, test activation with the TSO, and the transition to full operational use.
The inclusion of Biomasa’s battery assets in ancillary services not only strengthens asset monetisation but also enhances security of electricity supply and overall system resilience at the regional level. It stands as a clear example of how flexibility solutions can simultaneously support market participation and system reliability.
